Thrilled to share that my installation Glow has been selected for the exhibition Tower of Babel at Stedelijk Museum Breda (Nov 2026–May 2027)!
Glow is an interactive installation that reinterprets the story of the Tower of Babel through the concept of mycelium: the underground network of fungal threads that exchanges information, nutrients, and signals. Where the Tower of Babel traditionally stands for human hubris, hierarchy, and collapse through miscommunication, Glow explores how subtle, organic structures can instead give rise to new forms of cohesion. The work invites reflection on vulnerability, collective growth, and the often-hidden networks that support our world, as well as the ecological and social networks in which we ourselves are entangled.
The installation consists of fragile, transparent structures with subtle lighting, suspended from a branch, which together form an organic construction. This glowing, almost breathing structure makes no attempt to rise or dominate; it appears to have emerged rather than been built. Between the spheres, neon-yellow growths wind their way through, connecting the different elements.
Glow thus activates an alternative way of thinking about construction: not the pursuit of height or control, but the recognition of growth, vulnerability, and mutual interdependence.
Instead of a classical Tower of Babel, Glow presents an organic, living system that reinterprets themes such as ambition, collapse, communication, and renewed cohesion. The installation becomes a contemporary reflection on collective, natural connectedness: not a hierarchical structure that falls apart, but a network that grows from the ground and enables new forms of cohesion.
